This semester long concept project challenged students to develop a comprehensive campaign identity for a hypothetical Sacramento Shakespeare Festival. The task required creating a visual system capable of promoting the festival across the city through posters, environmental graphics, digital platforms, and event materials. A central design challenge was translating Shakespeare’s dramatic and poetic themes into a contemporary visual language. The identity needed to respect the cultural weight of Shakespeare’s work while avoiding the overly traditional aesthetic that often surrounds it. The problem therefore centered on designing a campaign that could communicate the intensity, emotion, and theatrical spectacle of the plays in a way that feels visually engaging and relevant to modern audiences.

From these investigations, a series of visual directions were tested through posters and large format compositions. The design process explored strong typographic hierarchy, dramatic color contrast, and symbolic imagery inspired by Shakespearean themes such as power, mortality, and performance. Design triads such as cinematic, editorial, and immersive helped guide visual decisions and refine the tone of the campaign. As the system developed, the identity was expanded into a full campaign including posters, billboards, bus shelter advertisements, light pole banners, digital media, and festival materials. Each application was designed to maintain visual consistency while functioning effectively across different scales and environments.
