DELIVERABLES

THE MASTER & MARGARITA

(BOOK DESIGNS)

Book cover design requires translating a narrative into a clear and compelling visual system while balancing imagery, typography, and hierarchy. For The Master and Margarita, this challenge is amplified by its surreal, layered themes, requiring a solution that can communicate both its symbolic, mystical qualities and its underlying structure.

The type-dominant cover focuses on bold typographic interplay, using scale, contrast, and alignment to reflect the tension and rhythm of the narrative. Together, both directions balance expressive storytelling with structured design principles, demonstrating versatility in visual interpretation and conceptual clarity.

The project also includes a complete book layout, with carefully designed chapter breaks and a consistent typographic system throughout. GREP styling was used to automate formatting, ensuring precision, efficiency, and cohesion across the entire publication.

SOLUTION

The final outcome presents a complete and cohesive book system that captures the novel’s complexity through two contrasting yet unified cover designs. The image dominant cover conveys atmosphere and intrigue, while the type dominant version emphasizes structure and bold visual hierarchy. Paired with a fully resolved interior layout and automated typographic system, the project demonstrates control over both expressive and functional aspects of book design.
